| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.com Writers Jeremy Lloyd and David Croft managed something quite clever with this, the film version of the 1970s sitcom Are You Being Served? The idea of this cheery collection of comedy stereotypes--the pompous one, the vulgar one, the camp one, the shifty one, and so on--being confined within a department store was a master stroke, as it allowed any kind of situation to arise without the plot having to exceed the restrictions imposed by the set. How, then, to keep the same theme for the big screen without just offering the television series writ large? Simple: send the whole cast on holiday together but make sure they can't leave their hotel, a state of affairs contrived easily enough by throwing a guerilla uprising into the plot. So it is, then, that the staff of Grace Bros. descends on the Costa Plonka while the store is closed for refurbishment. There are all the usual jokes involving knickers, boobs, toilets, and gay sex (sometimes all at once), adding up to a good slice of nostalgic fun for anyone who was there when lapels really were that wide. --Roger Thomas
Product Description While the store floor is being remodeled the staff of grace brothers is treated to a continental holiday at don bernardos palace hotel in costa plonka where they tangle with the local cuisine swap cheeky lust letters and are caught in the middle of an armed rebel insurrection. If your an AYBS fan then you need to also have this movie:-) July 8, 1999 27 out of 29 found this review helpful
It is a great addition you any AYBS fan's collection. Starring the origional cast with Grainger and Lucas (however it has Mr. Harmon rather than Mr. Nash from Maint.)The voices seem a little different in the movie rather than the television series, and you do miss the laughter from the audience - however it is still classic Are You Being Served and good for some great laughs! If you are an AYBS fan buy this movie - if you are not a fan, well you should be! ;-)
Hilarious movie June 25, 2002 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
I'm a big fan of Are you Being Served?, and I thought this movie was hilarious. This movie does contain a number of references and bits from various episodes, which to me adds to it's charm. The original staff are on a wacky vacation together. The cast is great, and the story kept me laughing throughout. I recommend this DVD to any fan of the series.

Great movie, however some of the lines are the exact same from the show. It is though a must see for any fan of AYBS.
A hilarious movie, finally on DVD! July 10, 2002 Erik Homenick (San Diego, California) 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
Having been an Are You Being Served fan for 10 years, I am thrilled to see the AYBS? movie finally arrive on DVD. The picture quality looks great; the widescreen presentation along with the crisp colors are beautiful. The sound seems a bit quiet at times, but that seems to be due more to the actors' understated delivery of dialog than any technical deficiency. The disc is lacking of any special features save for a theatrical trailer and chapter selection menu. I think though, for any true AYBS? fan, the sheer fact that this (in the past) hard to find film is on a fabulous looking DVD is more than enough.
A Great Introduction for AYBS! January 15, 1999 eversole@email.unc.edu B.J. Eversole (Chapel Hill, NC) 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
If you have never viewed Are You Being Served? on television, this movie is a great way to introduce yourself to this television classic. Many of the movie's jokes come straight from the show, which is kind of bizarre to those of us who have watched AYBS for years, but it is still a classic. Buy this movie!
