Amazon.com Neve Campbell is an arresting enigma in When Will I Be Loved, one of writer-director James Toback's most mysterious and successful minimalist dramas about sex, deception, and mutable identities in New York City. Campbell plays twentysomething beauty Vera, whose nude shower scene during the film's opening credits looks more like mythic preparation for a soon-to-be-fateful day than brazen exploitation. Ensconced in a fantastic loft paid for by her parents (Barry Primus, Karen Allen), the unemployed Vera embarks on an odyssey that begins with a mutually deceitful job interview with a college professor (Toback), leads to misadventures in questionable perception in Central Park, and climaxes with Vera's successful manipulation of two powerful men, one a craven lover (Fred Weller) and the other an Italian billionaire (Dominic Chianese) trying to get her in bed for a lot of money. Provocative as a good urban legend, the film sticks with one for a long time. --Tom Keogh

She Walks on the Wild Side January 31, 2009 Michael B. Druxman (Austin, TX) James Toback wrote and directed this intriguing erotic thriller about a wealthy girl (Neve Campbell) who likes to walk on the wild side.
For some unaccountable reason, Neve is romantically involved with a low class hustler (Fred Weller) who is always looking for a new con. Just now, he's met a ultra-rich Italian count (Dominic Chianese) who has seen Neve, wants to meet her and, for this service offers Weller $100,000.
More out of curiosity than anything else, Neve agrees to the meeting and then, almost off the top of her head, decides to get even with these two men who think of her as a piece of merchandise.
Exquisitely written, directed and acted (Campbell has never been better), this is a first rate film, endowed with a subtle tension and a couple of surprise plot twists, that deserves to be seen.
Extras include audio commentary by Toback, plus an on-screen conversation with the director and Campbell in which they discuss the film's sexually-oriented scenes.
Neve Campbell nude on the DVD cover, what a way to get guys attention February 3, 2006 Ronnie Clay (Winnsboro, Louisiana) 4 out of 7 found this review helpful
It's always the low-budget movies where you get to see you favorite celebrity women naked and this is one of them. Neve Campbell has a nude shower scene, she also is having lesbian sex. It seems that Neve Campbell will also due just about any guy in this movie. You get to see Mike Tyson in this film.
psychological drama January 3, 2006 Alan (Monroe, CT) 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
Interesting psychological drama focusing on a beautiful young woman who is surrounded by a consortium of ethically challenged men. At one point a job interview seems to be more about her beauty as opposed to qualifications. Money does not seem to be an issue since she lives in an expensive apartment paid for by her parents. The protagonist is strong willed as well as infatuated with herself. She easily manipulates those around her and turns the tables on an indecent proposal with charm and ease. Although her relationships with men, including her father, appear lifeless, she appears most happy and carefree with a female companion who visits her apartment one afternoon. Thought provoking film, outside the Hollywood box, features a great cast and fine direction.
Dominic Chianese Steals the Picture May 5, 2006 Laser Point 3 out of 7 found this review helpful
The purchase of this movie appeared to be a BIG mistake for the first third of the movie. The actors and the charactors they play are banal and boring. Ms Campbell's erotic scenes have been done better by many other more talented and more beautiful actresses which explains why her career is undistinguished.
BUT enter Dominic Chianese who exudes charisma, confidence, intelligence and vigor. It is easy to see why any woman would be taken with a successful man with this much presence regardless of his age. His scenes acted by a less talented individual might well have seemed ridiculous. However, Mr. Chianese imbues his role with fierce intelligence and sexuality, while never surrendering either his dignity or his credibility.
I highly recommend this movie for the pleasure of seeing a great actor in a great performance.
Reality.. Men Using Women. .Payback is a Bitch December 3, 2005 Lois Scott (California) 1 out of 10 found this review helpful
The movie starts out rather slow; but is very entertaining. This story is basically about real life. Men are wonderful creatures, but they always feel that it is okay to use and manipulate women. No matter how kind, understanding and giving a woman may be to their companion..It never fails. Men have the need to over power and take advantage in some small way. This movie is showing what could happen eventually if they continue assuming that being loved and cared about means..USE ME
